Apoapsis is the point of a body’s elliptical orbit from the system’s center of mass where the distance between the body and the center of mass is at its maximum. Metaphorically the meaning of Apoapsis is related to e memory aid (’’mnemonic’’) device, aimed at retaining a meaning for a long time in our memory. The memorial nature of this work reflects this metaphor as a depository of historic memory.
In an effort to express the relation between existential naturalism and restraining confinements, the work makes extensive use of geometric shapes and triangular forms and reverse dynamics through mirror effects, with a strong reference to the 17 sustainable development goals of the UN agenda 2030. The shape itself with its dynamic sharp angles refers to the supernatural, similarly as the gothic cathedrals high picks point at the sky. Moreover, the ethical constructivism of freedom and the mandate to maintain balance between will and dominance is expressed through dualisms such as up-down and reverse symmetrical forms.
As far as the etymological divide ‘’ Free-Dom ‘’ is concerned, the sculpture depicts 17 steps (17 SDGs) in reference to the challenges and the ongoing efforts of humanity to strive for peace, social justice and freedom. The steps leading to the ‘’ –Dom(Domus) ‘’ (as in the Mayan temples) create a monumental impression of dominance and supreme power along with an indication of direction, whilst the mirrors at both sides reflect the viewer-humanity and the sky-climate bypoll.
